Walking for Ollie!!
Hi everyone! :)
This year Ryan, myself and our family will be walking on June 8th for our son and his community, including this incredible program called Autism NS, which all proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated towards. This program shows uncondional support for families and individuals. There's a support group for parents, caregivers and older autistics. For the younger kids theres smaller programs like art, music, gymnastics, swimming lessons and even a summer camp!
This program is not only important to us but for other families looking for support on navigating a new diagnosis or just a helping hand. Autism NS goes above and beyond to make sure the kids have a safe space to learn, socialize and most importantly have fun. They make a world thats not very neurodivergent friendly much more adaptable so the kids can succeed.
Why I'm Walking
Our son, Ollie, is a non-speaking autistic 6 and a half year old. He's a funny guy who loves animals and dinosaurs, he's always has a smile on his face and laughing, observing his surroundings and constantly in thought. For someone who can't verbally speak; he can say a thousand words with just his expressions!
Ollie has been supported by Autism NS with programs such as EIBI and Early Development Intervention - because of their wonderful involvment he has come a long way! He still prefers to play alone but he will parallel play with his siblings and classmates, says a lot more letter sounds and can even communicate via PECS (picture exchange card system) binder at home and at school!!
Because of these programs and the knowledge they've given us; Ollie has a bright future ahead of him and we cant wait to see where that leads him!
